Wednesday Inspiration with Hannah

Hi girls,

It's time to post some more inspiration, and today I want to share 2 layouts featuring Crate Paper "School Spirit". These papers are obviously fantastic for school layouts, but they are very versatile and can be used for other themes as well (as you will see).

In this first layout, I teamed some of the School Spirit papers with Kraft cardstock and Prima autumn leaves to scrap this photo of Tyler at the "Amazing Maze in Maize" last Easter. I cut the "Geometry" paper into coloured blocks - the colours were perfect! In keeping with our "Along the Lines" theme for the month of May, I've used a black journalling pen to doodle a fun & easy lined border around the edge of my page.

Image

Products used:
Crate Paper School Spirit "Geometry"
Crate Paper School Spirit "Grade Card"
Kraft cardstock
Prima "Say it in Pearls" black fern
American Craft Thickers "Bones"
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type Alphas
Prima autumn leaves
Prima flowers
buttons
journalling pen
ink

Here I've used the School Spirit papers to scrap more of those school photos! I wanted to capture how much Ethan has changed over the last 5 years, so I used a photo from each school year to show the transition. I cut out numbers from the "Chalkboard" paper to represent each year. I utilised the grid paper to keep with the "Along the Lines" theme, and also added strips or "lines" of overlapping patterned papers and tape across the middle of the page.

Image

Products used:
Crate Paper School Spirit "Grade Card"
Crate Paper School Spirit "Study Hall"
Crate Paper School Spirit "Chalkboard"
Basic Grey Basics "Kraft Poll"
Sassafrass Lass Me Likey "Refreshed"
Heidi Swapp tape
old book page
misc. buttons and charm
My Minds Eye Life Stories "Team" journal card
Prima Alphabet Stickers "Tan"
journalling pen
ink
corner punch

*** EXTRA, EXTRA! ***

Yesterday a few of you were talking about challenges and how you couldn't wait for the June ones (next week), so I am offering a little "extra" challenge. Hopefully you've been inspired by these layouts, so I'm challenging anybody who wants to play along to create a layout based on this post. You can scraplift one of my layouts, use one as a "sketch", use the same colour palette, take inspiration from the titles, or create your own "recipe" based on some of the ingredients I have used.

Upload to this folder in the gallery: http://scrappinpatch.co.nz/coppermine/t ... ?album=418

I will offer a small RAK, and I will randomly draw a winner on Sunday afternoon.

Happy scrapping! :-)

Crate Paper - Toy Box Range

Adrienne gave me these gorgeous photo's of her grandson (Regan) to scrap, sometimes it's nice to scrap male pages especially when I never get to scrap male layouts,

When I saw the Crate Paper Toy Box range of papers I just new these would be perfect for a male layout.

Image

On this layout I have used, the Build pp and and Games pp together with a Teal Blue Bazzill cardstock. To embellish I have used the fabulous Eclectic Buttons which come in a pack of 14 different / arty buttons and have even added a home made Tim Holtz accordian flower - who says you cannot use a flower on a male layout.

With the left overs I created this layout, Adrienne told me about a Regan's kite which flew away and Regan kept telling her that "his dad is the best DAD because he can do anything", so that's why I have used those words on this layout of them together, such a special photo.

Image

I have used the Pink Paislee Hometown Summer Border stickers, together with October Afternoon Mini Market Alpha stickers and Sassafrass Lass Alphabet Stickers.

Hope I have inspired you with these FABULOUS papers.

TFL & happy scrapping

Wednesday Inspiration with Francine

Hi Ladies and welcome to another Inspiration Wednesday.

This week i have been playing with the gorgeous VICKI B line- lots of green- orange- maroon and browns and pinks- another fantastic collection from BOBUNNY. I have fallen in love with BOBunny and they are now in my top 3 ranges of papers! This collection has all the extras that you could want with buttons and metallic trinket buttons- alphabet and sticker embellishment sets and glitter stickers too - to name just a few. This range was so versatile for either boy or girl layouts- you could go pink- you could go green and browns and oranges for boys- something for everyone.

This first layout i did was a typical girly one - since i have girls afterall- using one of their fabulous diecut papers. This range also has some papers that are great for fussy cutting - flowers and shapes too- like the large flower shape that i cut from one of the papers and tucked behind the photo.

Scrap Tech Tueday - Make a "TAG" Banner

Hi girls,

So, everybody knows that banners are a recent, hot, scrapbooking trend. Most of the time they are the triangle "bunting" style banners, but today I'm going to show you how to make a different kind of banner. A "tag banner". And we are making our own tags, too. :-)

Here's the layout I used my tag banner on:

Image

Products used:
Crate Paper School Spirit "Grade Card"
Crate Paper School Spirit "Study Hall"
white and blue Bazzill
Jillibean Soup Beanstalks twine
Tattered Angels Glimmermist "Twilight"
Basic Grey Origins diecut shapes
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type Alphas
American Craft Thickers
Basic Grey Hopscotch mini mono stickers
Kaisercraft pearls
chipboard cog
paint
ink
crackle glaze
journalling pen

Here are a couple of close ups showing the banner in more detail:

Image

Image

And here's how to make your own!

1. Take an existing journalling tag to use as a template (or draw and cut your own).
2. Cut your patterned paper into sections, if required. I used the "Grade Card" paper which has lots of individual grade cards in various colours. I wanted to create my own tags using the different coloured grade cards, so I cut them out first.

Image

3. Trace around your template (use the back side of your paper).

Image

4. Cut out your tag and punch a hole through the top.

Image

5. Ink the edges.

Image

6. Thread several tags together using twine, string, embroidery thread, ribbon, ric-rac or similar.

Image

I hope you enjoy this idea. If you do decide to give it a try on your next project, be sure to share it with us!

Colour Challenge - ends 31st May 2011

Time for the second of our fortnightly challenges for the month of May! :-)

This time it's a colour challenge, using the colours BLUE and YELLOW. You can use other colours too, but your layout does need to be predominantly blue & yellow.

And don't forget our theme for May is "Along The Lines", so you will need to incorporate that into your layout as well.

Here is my example:

Image

As you can see from the following close ups, I've used lines in a few different ways:
Down the right hand side, I have added a strip of horizontally lined paper with a quote printed in a vertical wavy line.
My journalling is done in strips, or "lines".
I have used 2 different lined/grided papers; one is the pale yellow piece and the other is the white one behind my photo.
I've also used some blue & yellow strips of sticker scraps (those little "off cuts" from the edges of your sticker sheets that you normally throw away) to create some interesting embellishments.

Image

Image

Image

Products used (mostly old stock, so not many links I'm afraid):
Pink Paislee 365 Degrees "Daydream", "Think Big"
Fancy Pants The Daily Grind "Break Time"
Bella Blvd Carla Midnight Alphas
Basic Grey Origins stickers
misc. stickers
American Craft Thickers
Color Box Chalk Ink "French Blue"
buttons
thread
journalling pen

You have until midnight, Sunday 29 May to upload your layout to the gallery here: http://scrappinpatch.co.nz/coppermine/t ... ?album=417

And remember, if you complete all 3 challenges during May (the sketch challenge and the 2 fortnightly challenges), you might be chosen to be "In The Spotlight" next month!

Happy scrapping,
Hannah

Wednesday Inspiration with Hannah

Hi girls,

I wanted to share a couple of layouts I did using the Basic Grey "Hopscotch" range of papers, stickers and alphas.

Initially, I considered this to be a pretty "girly" range due to the pastel colours and feminine designs, and I was going to hunt around for some photos of me as a little girl. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the colours are quite versatile, and can be used for both girl and boy pages.

I particularly loved playing with the combination of brown, mint green and lemon. I had fun using this combo, with a touch of orangey-pinky-red, to scrap a photo of my boys and I. The other page is of my niece Georgia, and I must admit I enjoyed going a bit crazy with pink and flowers for a change! ;-)

Image

Products used:
brown Bazzill
Basic Grey Hopscotch "First Dance"
Basic Grey Hopscotch element stickers
Basic Grey Hopscotch Bloomers
Basic Grey Hopscotch mini mono stickers
misc. paper scraps
Versamagic ink "Pumpkin Spice"
pop dots
journalling pen

Image

Products used:
tan Bazzill
Basic Grey Hopscotch "Mash Game"
Basic Grey Hopscotch "Potsy"
Basic Grey Hopscotch element stickers
Basic Grey Hopscotch Bloomers
Basic Grey Hopscotch mini mono stickers
Carolee's Creations tiny alphas
Prima flowers
brads
journalling pens

I hope these layouts inspire you to grab some Hopscotch papers and have fun with them!

Thanks for looking, and happy scrapping!

Happy (Inter) National ScrapBooking Day

Happy {inter}national scrapbooking day!!
:P2: :P2: :P7: :P2: :P2: :P8: :P6: :P5: :WW: :WW:

Okay, so I hope you are ready to play along with some pretty cool challenges?

To celebrate all things scrapbooking, the design team have come up with five different technique challenges which follow along the same theme.

The theme is All ABOUT YOU and your SCRAPBOOKING HOBBY.

I will let the design team explain their own challenge in more detail but briefly, the five challenge topics are:

A Snapshot of you.
Where you scrap
Your favourite things
Scrapbooking goals
Your Style

The idea is that if you complete all the challenges then at the end of the weekend you will have a series of layouts all about you and your scrapbooking hobby!

You can create your layouts any size or shape -- one option could be to scrap 6x6 inches and put them together and create a mini book about your scrapbooking.

As I mentioned above, the challenges are technique based and therefore each of the design team’s layout showcases a different scrapbooking technique which you must also include on your challenge entry.

And seeing as we are celebrating… one lucky challenge participant will win an amazing prize - a wonderful product prize pack (valued at $70!!)

To be eligible to win this prize, you must complete 4 out of the 5 challenges with the respective technique showcased and upload them to the gallery.

Also, each design team member will also choose one participant from each challenge to receive a RAK from them.

You must upload your layouts to the gallery by midnight on Monday 9th May to be eligible to win these prizes.

So, celebrate with us and I hope you enjoy participating in these challenges as much as the design team has enjoyed creating them for you!!

Step by Step - Altering a Picture Frame

Hi everyone,

I had some cute 5 x 3.5 inches white photo frames that I inherited from my sister. They had a couple of chips in the wood but I thought they would be a perfect size to do a little project for Taylor's room.

These were the frames in their original state. I quite liked the cute little trees that came with them!! Shame they had to go.

Image

First I prepped the outside of the frames by giving them a little sand with a piece of sandpaper - mostly to smooth out the little chips to give a more even finish. Next I gave them a small sponge of white paint to ensure that the glimmermist would stick a bit better to the white frames. You could use white gesso which is a primer for this job but white paint works just as well if you have it lying around. The misting may have worked without this step but I wanted to ensure the mist would run as little as possible. After painting the frames, I used a piece of scrap paper and placed it over the glass to protect it from the treatment I was about to give the frame!

Image

Next, it got a bit messy. I decided I wanted to use my Prima leaves mask as it is just DEVINE!! so I held it onto the frame and sprayed away. I was a bit impatient but I would recommend waiting for the mist to dry a bit before moving on to the other sides of the frame. This was the result...

Image

Once all the sides were done and dry (I used my heat tool to help speed up the process here), I added Tim Holtz Rock Candy Crackle Paint to the frame to antique it a bit.

Image

I then went and created two little picture layouts. The first one is placed under the glass. I used a piece of my left over Prima to create the 5 x 3.5" background, added a cute mat for the photo, some Cosmo Cricket Butterflies and my MS Doily Punch. The second one I created on top of the glass as I wanted it to be more dimensional.
