Scrap Tech Tuesday - Fabric Flowers

Scrap tech Tuesday - Fabric Flowers

Postby Heidi » Tue Jun 15, 2010 5:33 am
This week I am going to show you how to make your own FABRIC flowers using some soft Muslin Fabric which is easy to work with and fray with.

1. Firstly you will need a small piece of Muslin Fabric (approx 10 cm x 5cm) and iron it flat;
2. Fold it in half and iron flat again, then cut the two sections

Image

3. Next sew the two pieces of fabric together along the top.

Image

4. Tie the ends of the cotton on the one end, and then pulling the other two cotton pieces on the other side, scrunch it up to look like this.

Image

5. Once you have pulled the cotton and scrunched it up as much as it will go, tie the two ends of the cotton together in a knot so both sides will now be together and will not come apart. Then start fraying the edges of the fabric, the length of the fraying is totally up to you.

Image

6. Next I have sprayed some Glimmermist Chalkboard - Peacock onto the flower, to give it a two tone effect, it dries pretty quickly
on the fabric. Lastly I added a Grey Jewel in the centre to finish the flower off.

So there you go, simple couple of steps, and very rewarding creating your flower, so I have it all ready for a layout where I need that something special added to the layout.

TFL and Happy Scrapping everyone.

Meet our 3 Newest Design Team Members

We were overwhelmed by the standard and volume of submissions we received again. Thank you, and well done, to all the girls who applied!!!!!

Please join us to welcome not one, not two, but THREE new DT girls...Francine Evans, Michelle Whorwood, and Julie de Villiers. :woot: :yahoo: :P2: Each of them brings wonderful creativity and enthusiasm to the Patch and we can't wait to see their creations, not to mention their involvement in different aspects of Scrappin' Patch. :welcome:

ImageMy name is Michelle Whorwood. I live in Albany on the North Shore of Auckland with my husband, Gary, our 6 year old son Liam and our very bouncy Retrospoodle dog, Indy.

I have been scrapbooking for about 3 years now although I do have trouble remembering exactly when I just stopped just collecting many scrapbooking products and I actually became completely hooked. I am still developing my own style and I enjoy mixing up the style of my layouts depending on my mood at the time. Over the last few years, I have been lucky enough to be on several design teams as well as having the opportunity to teach technique based and beginners' scrapbooking classes at my local scrapbooking store. I have also been published in Up2Scrap magazine.

I would say that Scrapbooking for me is like therapy... I find it very relaxing and it's often my time out or my 'me time'. I love that scrapbooking enables me to preserve my families' memories, to be creative and allows me to indulge in some retail therapy all at the same time.

Right now I am currently working part time as a sales administrator for a company that has the license to distribute the iconic New Zealand toy - the Buzzy Bee. However, I will be leaving work in the next month or so to embark on a new whirlwind adventure with the arrival of a much wanted new family member expected in early October 2010. Unfortunately, we experienced unexplained secondary infertility after having Liam and over the last 5 years have undergone numerous medical and natural treatments in an effort to conceive. Many times, during these years, I have found that scrapbooking has enabled me to focus on the wonderful things in life that I am thankful for and the wonderful friends I have made through this craft to be valuable in keeping me sane whilst on this emotional rollercoaster.

I am really honoured to have been chosen to be on a Scrappin' Patch design team along with such talented designers so thanks Adrienne and Pauline for the opportunity to be part of the team.

ImageHi, I'm Julie de Villiers and I'm 34 years old. I have been married to my husband Andre for 11 years and we have two girls, Jamie (7) and Tiana (5). We currently live in Gore, where we have been for the last two and a half years, but I grew up in Auckland. I am a part time teacher, having completed my degree last year.

I came across scrapbooking by accident when Jamie was a baby and very sick in hospital. While visiting the "Parent and Child Show" across from the hospital my Mum and I came across a scrapbooking stand. My mum decided that it would be something I would be interested in and brought me my first kit. From there I never really looked back. Though I guess I have always been crafty in some way or another. As a child I would spend all my hard earned pocket money on pretty pens and papers. Not much has changed all these years later!

For me scrapbooking is my creative outlet (along with the odd bit of sewing!) and my "ME" time. I love the idea that I am creating memories for my family and the generations that will come long after I am gone. Hopefully they will enjoy looking at them as much as I have enjoyed creating them.

I am so very excited to join "The Patch" and can't wait to work with the other very talented ladies! Let the fun begin!!

ImageHi, my name is Francine Evans and I reside in Christchurch- not far from Scrappin Patch.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Simon for 9 years and together we have 4 beautiful and amazing daughters. Zoe , 7, Ella, 5, Lucy 3,and Hollie 1. They are my inspiration for most of my pages- I love the fact that I am recording them and their interests and little quirks that easily get forgotten in later years. My daughters all love looking at their pages already and my eldest daughter has already completed her first page!

For those that know me- I am the pink, flower, bling queen - with four daughters I use a lot of these products- along with ribbon and lace. I love layering and using circles and bracket shapes in my layouts and just adore anything Prima- ahh beautiful Prima!! My favourite designers at the moment are Tara Orr- I love her shabby chic style and the fabulous Janine Koczwara- all that Prima and the flowers!

I first started scrapbooking 3 years ago when Lucy was just a baby- I had seen a friends wedding album and thought it was so beautiful and would like to give that a try! I walked into a scrapbooking shop , took a class, got hooked completely and then started working in the shop as well!

I am lucky enough to have my own scrap space- my retreat from the noise of 4 girls and try to do some scrap activity each day for my own sanity!

I am honoured to be asked to be a design team member amongst such hugely talented ladies who I have looked up to and admired for so long!

Thanks for having me!

Glimmermist CHALKBOARD

I saw these in the shop and wondered how to use them- would they be the same as normal Glimmermist?. It's no secret how much i LOVE using Glimmermist on most things, so of course I had to try them out.

WHAT IS CHALKBOARD? - I googled Glimmermist Chalkboard and this is what I found:-

This art medium will give you the same beautiful Glimmer as Glimmer Mist, yet the base will give you a semi-opaque finish that blends just like chalk. This is just like using art pastels or chalks! it will blend nicely with other Chalkboard colors or even with the original Glimmer Mist to create a variety of transparencies and add depth to your project.

and this is what I have tried them on so far!

Colour - CHALK (White)

I sprayed like you would normally directly onto a NAVY cardstock, I wondered whether you could actually see the white or whether it would be like the pearl Glimmerist and just give it a little shine - but to my SURPRISE - Yes ladies it shows up on the darker colours, check it out, don't you think it looks like a MILKYWAY of stars? :P5: :P5: :P5:

Image

Colour - PEACOCK (Turquoise)

Image

I tried the Peacock colour directly on the Pink Paislee Artisan Elements, it took a while to dry but it came out really well.

Colour - CONCORDE (purple)

Image

here I have sprayed some of the Chalkboard directly onto a White Feather as well as a home made CRINKLEPAPER flower :- check out the close ups

Image

Image

I also tried some CHARCOAL Chalkboard on the Making Memories Vintage Charms and it took two days to dry but it came out very nicely - sort of giving it that old - weathered look.

and lastly I have tried it out on the PRIMA FELT - here I used the HOT CHOCOLATE - it works really well on the felt and dried almost instantly.

Image

so if you have been toying with the idea of MAYBE buying some, I can tell you - they are pretty awesome, and there are lots of YUMMY colours in the shop

Still trying some more things, so keep an eye on the forum, will upload once I have played some more.

Happy Scrapping
HEIDI
